FAQs - Corrugated Custom Box Sizes & More

I need my boxes tomorrow - can you get them to me in time?

Yes, as long as you order non-printed boxes before noon (12:00 PM CST) Central Time, Monday through Friday, and select overnight delivery. Orders received online after 12:00 PM Central Time are not available for next-day delivery. Exceptions to this may be possible by contacting a Custom Boxes Now specialist.

Printed boxes have a longer lead time because of tooling that is required-usually 3-5 business days after artwork approval. Rush orders may be available for printed boxes, depending on capacity. Contact us for more information.

Which dimension is length, width, or depth?

The first two dimensions determine the opening, with the third determining the depth or distance between the box openings.

How do I know what style of box to order?

The RSC and FOL are the same, but where the RSC flaps fold and meet in the middle for taping, the FOL flaps fully overlap each other. This gives the FOL more structural strength or resistance to twisting/bending.

The HSC style only has flaps on one side (that fold and meet in the middle), and the other is open.

The One Panel Folder is the only style we can run in depths less than 3", and is best suited for flat objects (less than 3"). It is designed to fit snugly, so please do not add any extra space.

The Tray and Cover is best suited for heavy or bulky objects, as the bottom can be loaded without reaching over flaps. The cover fully telescopes (slides over) the tray, giving additional vertical strength to prevent the box from crushing. It does require stapling or gluing the corner flaps to assemble; we recommend using a heavy duty stapler or hot melt glue.

Visit our Shipping Boxes 101 section to see more about choosing the best style of cardboard boxes for shipping your product.

Should I enter inside dimensions or outside dimensions of the box I need?

All dimensions are inside dimensions of the assembled box. For questions regarding outside dimensions, or which box is best for your product, please visit our Shipping Boxes 101 section or contact us.

How do I know what box strength I should choose?

We have simplified the box ordering process by offering three popular grades of corrugated board. You can choose the right strength for your specific box application. If you still have questions after reading the information below, please contact a custom box specialist.

The strength of a shipping box depends on its size and the strength of the corrugated used in its construction. The larger the box, the more strength it can hold:

"Standard" Strength Box: Single-wall, 200 lb; we do not recommend exceeding 65 lbs and 75 total inches of measurement.

"Strong" Strength Box: Single-wall, 275 lb; we do not recommend exceeding 95 lbs and 95 total inches of measurement.

"Extra Strong" Strength Box: Double-wall, 350 lb; we do not recommend exceeding 105 total inches and 120 lbs.

Total inches can be measured by taking the outside dimensions of the box and adding them together (length, height, and width).

Is there a minimum quantity of boxes I must order?

No, we do not require a minimum order quantity. However, the larger quantity of boxes you order, the more you save per box. You can see the per-piece price improve on the custom box configurator by increasing the quantity field. For high-volume orders over 1500 quantity, please contact us for the best possible pricing.

Can I add a logo or other custom printing to my box?

Yes--we specialize in printed boxes. You may choose to add printing to your custom box:

Standard Printing - this allows you to select from popular phrases such as "Fragile" or "This Side Up".

Custom Printing - this option allows you to upload your logo or graphics and add them to your box. You will see a print plate charge added to the cost of your box. After selecting custom printing, you will be asked for the number of panels (on which you want printing), number of colors, and image size. You will also be asked to upload your image later in the checkout process.

Panels: Number of sides that would be printed. For 2 panel printing we normally print the two longer panels of a box, opposite of one another. For 4 panel printing, we print both the length and width panels of the box. If you are interested in getting the top or bottom panels printed, please contact us.

Colors: 1C printing is a single spot color, that can be screened, printed on a box. 2C printing is two spot colors, both of which can be screened, printed on a box. 4C printing can be either four specific spot colors or process printing.

Image Area: The total dimensional area of your print, centered on each selected panel. Please do not select an image area larger than the box you are purchasing. If you would prefer a different placement on the panels, please contact Custom Boxes Now and we would be more than happy to help you.

Check out our Box Printing 101 section to learn more about custom box printing, or please contact us if you need assistance with adding custom printing. Please allow 2-3 extra days for custom printed boxes.

Do you sell wholesale boxes that I can resell?

We do not specifically sell wholesale corrugated boxes or have an official reseller program, but we can run large volume quantities of custom boxes to lower the per-box cost. For the best pricing on large-volume orders, please contact us.

What is the difference between cardboard boxes and corrugated boxes?

When people talk about "cardboard boxes" they are usually referring to corrugated. Corrugated boxes use a fluted sheet and one or two linerboards, while cardboard can be any heavy paper / pulp based board. For more, check out our Shipping Boxes 101 page.
